The fact that almost everyone I know and everyone THEY know rejected it outright tells you that Adaptation Displacement is very real. Thing is, it may be a better adaptation of the book -- but the '70's "Chocolate Factory" is by far the better movie. I figure the tunnel is coming from the same headspace as, say, Large Marge or the Pink Elephants. That doesn't explain any of them at all, mind you. By the way, you should review "James and the Giant Peach" as it gets lost in the shuffle of Dahl-based movies and is a particularly good one. And I can't wait to read your review of "Cats Don't Dance". Great little sadly forgotten aberration in the animated films of the '90s.
