and bay’s got way fewer credits as a director than required to hate someone as bad as the new yorker did when they described him as “stunningly, almost viciously untalented.” C’mon. Bad Boys was kinda good, and Armageddon was way way better that Independence Day.

I think the huge outcry of this year is entirely from the 80′s cartoon-weaned nimrods who, for reasons unknown to me, think “The Transformers” cartoon is some sort of pure, perfect… thing that Bay has somehow “perverted”. Like, I would really like to see two hours of square-cut blocks of metal standing around yelling back and forth about how evil they are and then proceed to shoot at each other and not manage to hit anything or resolve anything once the smoke has cleared.

The original Transformers designs sucked. Flat and lifeless. Yes, the new designs are over the top, but I’m way happier with those, sans the ridiculous sex and ethnic references. At least there are actual casualties in the films. Wow, the Autobots are actually destroying the “evil forces of the Decepticons”. Holy crap.

Anyhow, “Bad Boys” rocked, other than the episode of “The Martin Lawrence Show” that was stuffed in the middle of the film. In general, Michael Bay movies are FUN. That’s what I expect from them and that’s usually what I get. He’s not trying to trick anyone into thinking it’s high art. It’s Summertime Action he’s selling and I think I’m getting good quality from the product.
